Colonsay Ceilidh by Donald Thomson is a light-hearted jig with a twist for intermediate level. The repeated notes are characteristic of the traditional style of this kind of music, and the melody is based on the pentatonic scale, commonly used in folk music and includes a bagpipe drone in places for the left hand. A Ceilidh is a Gaelic word for an evening of music, dancing and usually quite a lot of whiskey.

Pipa Dreams in Imperial Garden (2018) for solo piano, is an attempt to capture something of the essence of the Chinese lute. The pipa is a strummed and plucked, pear-shaped instrument, with four strings (typically tuned A D E A), characteristically using frequent fast tremolo with all of the right fingers repeatedly plucking a single string.
The word raga literally means 'to colour', and from that also 'to induce emotion' or 'to arouse passion'. The musical term raga refers to a performance, within the melodic and structural conventions of Indian classical music, that evokes a particular emotion.
Scottish Waters is a collection of five beautiful piano pieces for late intermediate level, inspired by the lochs, rivers and seas of the composer's home country. Written in a contemporary Scottish style, they include slow, lyrical tunes with flowing passages, and quick, lively pieces with plenty of wit, sparkle and technical challenges for the pianist. Though mathematics and #musictheory are not taught together, they share remarkable similarities. Counting, rhythm, patterns and symmetry... All highlight the mathematical magic of music.
Some kids might get music better but struggle in math, whereas for some math is easy but music is alien. By mixing one with another and showing the underlying similarities, we can understand both better. This fraction strips of musical notes does exactly that. They highlight how fraction works using musical notes. They show how each note has a fractional value.

Invented by Bartolomeu Christofori, the piano gave composers more dynamic range than the harpsichord.
We find out how the shift away from piano impacted J.S Bach and his sons.

Handel was one of the most successful composers of the era writing several operas, oratorios and popular religious set pieces.
